22 Minute Chocolate Cake
This recipe is named 22 Minute Chocolate Cake recipe because my Aunt says the perfect baking time is 22 minutes at 400 degrees.
This is a really fabulous quick and easy homemade chocolate cake made from scratch. No cake mixes or frosting mixes, just good home
ingredients and lots of love from the cook.
Of course as always oven temperatures do tend to vary, so watch your cake closely the first time you bake it.
Ingredients: 2 c. flour
3½ T. cocoa
2 c. sugar
2 c. shortening
1 stick margarine
2 eggs
½ c. buttermilk
1 t. soda
1 t. vanilla
Instructions:
Combine flour and sugar in bowl, set aside.
Combine cocoa shortening, margarine, and 1 cup water in sauce pan. Bring to a boil over medium heat. Add to flour mixture, mixing well. Stir
soda, vanilla eggs into buttermilk. Add to flour mixture, mixing well.
Pour into greased 12” x 18” pan. Bake at 400º for 22 minutes. Allow cake to cool a few minutes and then pour Cocoa Frosting over
cake.
Cocoa Frosting
1 stick margarine
3 ½ T. cocoa
1/3 c. milk
1 lb. confectioners’ sugar
1 c. nuts
Combine margarine, cocoa and milk saucepan. Bring to a boil.
Blend in confectioners’ sugar, stir in nuts. Could also add coconut if desired.
