Superb Biscuit Recipes
My family has so many good cooks that we created a variety of great biscuit recipes. I decided to include a few on one page and will do
more as time goes on.
The first group of biscuits are made with baking powder, and the second group are made with yeast.
Try the Angel Biscuits recipe for Cinnamon Rolls too. Just roll out the dough and sprinkle with a cinnamon and sugar mixture. Then
roll it up and cut into two inch rolls. Try this variety of my Grandma's Cinnamon Rolls too.
You can even make a Homemade Pizza Dough with the Angel Biscuit recipe, (see below) so what a great variety this collection is. To
finish the pizza just add your favorite ingredients to the pizza crust and what a treat to enjoy homemade pizza.
Baking Powder BiscuitsIngredients:
2 c. sifted flour
4 t. baking powder
½ c. shortening
½ t. cream of tarter
1 egg unbeaten
½ t. salt
2/3 c. milk
2 T. sugar Instructions:
Sift flour baking powder, salt, sugar and cream of tarter into bowl. Add the shortening to the flour mixture and blend together until of
cornmeal-like consistency. Pour milk in flour mixture slowly. Add the egg. Stir to a stiff dough. Knead five times. Roll to 1/2" thickness. Cut
with 1-1/2" cutter.
Bake on an aluminum cookie sheet for 10 to min. at 450°.
Quick Biscuits
Ingredients:
2 c. flour
2 T. heaping of real mayonnaise
1 T. baking powder
¾ t. salt
1-1/2-2 c. milk
Instructions:
Stir and drop from spoon on to greased pans.
Bake at 450° for 8 minutes or until brown.
Baking Powder Biscuits II
Ingredients:
2 c. flour
2 T. shortening
4 t. baking powder
1 c. milk
1 t. salt
Instructions:
Sift or combine flour, baking powder, and salt, work shortening in with fingers. Add milk (may need just a little more). Knead together. Roll
out and cut with biscuit cutter or a jar ring. Place in a greased baking sheet and grease the tops. Cook at 450° for about 20 minutes or until
brown. (I recommend good flour for any bread. I use Gold Medal Brand, but try to find fine white flour for your bread. Try Butter Crisco,
too.)
Yeast Snow Biscuits
Ingredients:
2 c. sifted flour
1 cake yeast
1-1/2 t. sugar
¾ c. lukewarm water
½ t. salt
1 T. melted shortening
Instructions:
Sift dry ingredients. Dissolve yeast. Combine ingredients. Let rise double, cut into biscuits. Prick tops with fork. Bake at 450°.
Angel Biscuits with Yeast
Ingredients
6 c. flour
3 T. sugar
1 c. shortening
1 pkg. yeast dissolved in ½ c. lukewarm water
1 t. soda
1 t. salt
2 c. buttermilk
3 t. baking powder
Instructions:
Mix with spoon until moist. Divide, put in covered container. Can be stored for several weeks. Roll out, cut, bake in preheated oven at
450°.
1/3= 2 pizza crusts,
biscuits for 5,
or 1 dozen cinnamon rolls.
Homemade Pizza Crust
Use 1/3 of the Angel Biscuits recipe and to finish the pizza just add pizza sauce and your favorite ingredients to the pizza crust. What a
treat to enjoy homemade pizza.
