Caramel Popcorn Recipes

 

Most people can remember eating Caramel Popcorn or Popcorn Balls at one time or another in their life.  We have a few variations on those delicous treats for you to try.

If you grew up eating 'Cracker Jacks' Popcorn, this is the trick to getting that special flavor-using sorghum.

Sorghum syrup is made from sorghum cane, whereas molasses is made from sugar cane.  If you can’t find the sorghum syrup, you may use molasses.

 

 

Grandma’s ‘Cracker Jacks’ Popcorn

Mix:
1 c. sorghum syrup or molasses
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. white sugar
½ c. boiling water
Boil to a hard ball stage.

Add:
2 T. butter
1 t. vinegar
Boil 30 seconds longer
Have 6 quarts of corn popped.  Stir syrup mixture over popcorn until it’s well coated and doesn’t stick.   MMMMMM  MMMMM!

Caramel Popcorn Balls

Ingredients:
Heat until melted:
1 c. evaporated milk (can milk)
¼ c. butter or margarine

Mix in heavy 2 qt. saucepan:
1 c. sugar
1 c. corn syrup
¼ t. salt
Food coloring if desired

Instructions:
Cook stir over medium heat until boils and sugar dissolves. Boil until forms a soft ball stage. Stir in the hot milk mixture in slow stream whiled sugar boils.  Cook and tri until firm ball stage.
Pour over prepared popcorn and form into balls. Smells wonderful while cooking and will bring them running to see what is so good.

Caramel Popcorn II

Ingredients:
2 c. brown sugar
½ c. butter or margarine
¾ c. can milk

Instructions:
Boil until starts to thicken.  Pour over popcorn. Mix thoroughly.
