Questions From Our Readers:

Q- What does it mean when a recipe calls for an unbaked pie shell?

A- When baking a pie some recipes call for an unbaked pie shell. What this means is you are using a pre-made pie crust that you purchase at the store. This can be in the form of pie dough that comes in the dairy case and you simply roll it out onto your own pie pan, then proceed with the recipe. Another is looking in the dairy case for a pre-made pie dough that is already in a disposable pie pan. This is referred to as an unbaked pie shell.
