Homemade Sourdough Starter Recipe

This easy Sourdough Starter Recipe for making Sourdough Bread has been a family favorite of ours for many years. Sourdough seems to be making a comeback with many of the popular fast food restaurants even using Sourdough Bread now.

This simple Sourdough Starter has many uses. I have included a few recipes below that you may want to try.

It is important however, to make sure this Sourdough Starter Recipe is followed exactly for the best results.

Ingredients:

1 qt. lukewarm water
1 pkg. yeast
2 t. sugar
4 c. flour

Instructions:

Put in crock (cover with cloth) - let rise until light and slightly aged. About 2 days.

Then as it stands - add flour as needed. After each use of sourdough replace with equal amounts water and flour.

Sourdough Starter Uses

Dry baking Mix:

 2 c. flour
1 T. sugar
1 T. baking powder
1 t. salt
1/3 c. shortening

Wild Union Bread

1-1/2 oz. pkg. Lipton Onion soup mix
1 egg
¾ c. hot water
2 recipes dry baking mix (above)
1 pkg. yeast
2 T. sugar
1 c. sourdough
2 T. warm water

Mix, knead, let rise 45 min. Bake at 375° for 35 minutes.

Sourdough Stroganoff

Round steak
1 c. flour
2 t. onion salt
2 t. paprika
1 t. pepper
1 c. sourdough

Combine flour and seasonings. Dip pounded steak into sourdough then in flour. Fry. Serve with rice or noodles.
