Easy Sugar Cookies

When my daughter was in grade school she made her first attempt at baking Sugar Cookies. They really turned out well and we just raved over them.

A child really needs lots of encouragement to want to learn to cook. So enjoy this simple recipe with your kids, and perhaps you will have the same results we did; good family fun and great tasting, and an Easy and Delicious Sugar Cookie Recipe.

Let them try adding different flavorings like almond or maple for a variety. Brown sugar is great to use too.  For added variety, you can flatten the cookies by using the bottom of a glass dipped in sugar.

Ingredients:

1 c. butter or margarine
1 t. vanilla
1/2 t. almond extract
1 c. sugar
1/8 t. salt
1/2 c. milk
1 egg
1/2 t. baking soda
2 1/3 c. flour

Instructions:

Cream together butter and sugar.

Beat in egg, milk, almond extract and vanilla.

Gradually add combined flour, salt and baking soda. Mix well, dough should be sort of stiff.

Drop by spoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet. Flatten the tops of the sugar cookies with a fork going first one way, and then crossways; makes a real nice pattern after baking. Sometimes you may need to dip the fork in water so the dough won't stick.

Bake at 375° for 9-11 minutes or until browned. Remove from cookie sheet onto wire rack to cool.
